HEALTH AND DISEASES

* Malaria is the highest fatality causing infectious disease in the world: about 200,000 deaths per year.

* In U.S.A. fifty percent of all deaths are caused by cardiovascular disease or cancer.

* It is believed that HIV virus that causes aids, jumped from the chimpanzees of the central African jungles to the human beings, at some time around the middle of the twentieth century. 


MISCELLANEOUS

* Long time ago Greek people described the speech of people who came from other countries as 'burbering'.  The word 'barbarism' originated from this practice. 

* U.S.A. has ten public holidays while many European countries have 30.

* Seventy percent of Volcanos and 90 percent of all earthquakes of the world are located in Indonesia and its surrounding region.

* When India was divided into two countries (India and Pakistan) at the time of independence in 1947, fifteen million people were involved in cross migration and it resulted in 600,000 deaths.

* In human species females live longer on average than males. This is also true in some other mammals.

* India produces more movies, every year, than any other country in the world.

* The number of people who reached the age 80 or more during 2004 was four times the number of those during 1950.  

* Age of the longest living person in history is recorded to be 122 years.
