A NEW SURVEY
As per a recent survey done by Pew research center of U.S.A., 98% of people in
India follow the same religion in their adulthood as they followed in their childhood. Only
two percent of people have changed their religion during last generation. Only .7% of
Hindus have converted to a different religion while .8% of followers of other religions have
converted into Hinduism.
Most conversions are voluntary. Of course there are forced conversions on rare
occasions but they are very few. So the radical allegations of "Love Jihad" are not based on
facts but reflect divisive communal attitudes.
Sadly, this tends to divert attention from the priorities of economic development
and improvement of public health infrastructure as well as the quality of basic education in
India.
