AFGHANISTAN
In my opinion, things were relatively stable in Afghanistan. U.S.A. troops presence there was
minimal, only about 3500 soldiers. For more than a year, there were no US casualties. There was no
emergency to trouble the untroubled waters.
Even if we wanted to get out of Afghanistan altogether, it could have been done in an
orderly manner, and with a better negotiated deal. The execution of US withdrawal was too swift and
without proper planning for evacuation of all Americans as well as the Afghanis who had aided us.
Now there are gloomy forebodings of repressive treatment, especially of Afghani women
and girls, under the new Taliban regime. International countries need to keep watchful eyes, with
respect to human rights abuses, upon the upcoming government in Afghanitan.
