MAULANA AZAD
Maulana Azad was one of the political leaders who played a prominent role in India's struggle
for independence from the British rule. He was born in a Muslim family which was imbued with deep
religious beliefs. But as he grew older, he could not reconcile himself with the prevailing customs and
beliefs of his family. He decided to adopt the pen name of "Azad" to indicate his freedom from his
inherited beliefs. He was in favor of studying modern science.
Azad followed Gandhiji after he appeared on the Indian screen. He joined the Congress party
which adopted Gandhiji's idea of civil disobedience in the fight against the British government. Azad
was at the opposite end of mr. Jinnah's ideology. He was against the partition of India. Even after India
was divided into two countries: India and Pakistan, Azad remained loyal citizen of India till the end of
his life. He became minister of education in the government of India after independence. He was a true
scholar and a wise man who was a staunch believer in the idea that India was a country for Muslims as
much as for Hindus.
Always new information is priceless. I love to search for unknown, and when I read, watch or view, it makes me very happy. Life is full of knowledge, no matter how much you know, its never enough for me. Thanks for writing about Maulana Azad, I never knew.
